We have been big supporters and fans of Plastic Bank's work since 2020 and we were delighted to be approached by them to feature in a case study for their website.
We held some in depth and extensive conversations about the sustainable and ethical beginnings of the company, how it became one of the most eco-friendly and green office cleaning companies in London. Their article started with some background:
After years in the cleaning industry, Louis Beaumont, Co-Founder of Hive Cleaning, grew increasingly frustrated with the superficial commitments of some sections of the industry pertaining to sustainability. Louis felt that these companies cared more about appearing sustainable than implementing real sustainable practices. Motivated to enact true change, Louis and his team decided seven years ago to try to demonstrate that cleaning businesses can be truly sustainable and successful at the same time. Under Louis’s leadership, Hive Cleaning has adopted effective operational practices and fostered a passionate, purpose-driven work culture. Louis shares, “We’re proud of what we do, and we know we’re making a positive difference. Sometimes, it makes the job harder, but we’re all happy doing it the right way.” This ethos is integral to Hive Cleaning’s hiring process, attracting candidates who share the team’s enthusiasm and commitment.
Hive Cleaning’s workforce remains loyal, productive, and satisfied, thanks partly to fair compensation and a commitment to reducing the company’s environmental impact while supporting underserved communities in collaboration with Plastic Bank.
We talked about the importance of our continuing our work with the Plastic Bank, while reducing plastic use in our everyday operations by using Toucan Eco technologies or replacing all the plastic bottles for hand soap and lotions with glass bottles at our clients' offices. Plastic Bank Foundation has helped us to offset tonnes of plastic since we started working with them.
Another important topic to discuss was also the positive impact of sustainable practices. Plastic Bank writes:
Securing sustainable suppliers requires substantial investment, posing a barrier for businesses aiming to enhance environmental practices. For Louis, these challenges were overcome with passion and resilience, resulting in positive ROI and business growth:
Team growth: The positive culture attracts like-minded team members, expanding the team to over 200 people who innovate and optimize operations.
Revenue growth: The company’s values have driven financial success, achieving a turnover of USD $5 million in seven years.
Industry leadership: Hive Cleaning is the highest-scoring B Corp in the UK within their sector, with future assessments looking promising.
Brand preference: High customer satisfaction and trust lead to most business through word of mouth, eliminating the need for traditional marketing.
